He has expressed the need for Cambodian fiction to move beyond the Pol Pot era, recognized by Geoff Ryman, the author of THE KING’S LAST SONG. He says of his fiction: "It's like an update. I want to put next to the books about the genocide, real-time stories from my country. That is my first mission in writing stories."
