The revolver

Author’s Note

The original story was written in Khmer since a year back. It was limited to 25 pages and subject was advised not to talk only about love. It was also the first time for me to write something that I was not really sure what I was going to write. I found something more bigger that I couldn’t tell in 25 pages. The story that I sent to competition was just the backup. The backup story won by chance the 2nd prize of Nou Hach Literary awards 2005, which made me a little nervous. The revolver here comes more closer than the original version to what I was facing from the first day I started to write story about my country. It’s more about me and my difficulties than the real story itself. The real story itself is about a countryside woman, her rice field, a pump machine and a revolver. Forget about me …follow the woman’s step. I hope you would like her as much as I like her.

Special Thanks to :

Kalyan KEOFor her big helps of being the editor of the short story. The moment she read out loud my first draft at JAVA Cafe, I was shy and nervous. She converted the time of telling the story to the past (to help it looks like a short story!!!) and corrected many mistakes both in grammar and orthography. Thank you for your kindness and your contributions in this project.

Geoff Ryman – For his supports and introduction of my projects in The Guardian article.

Nou Hach Literary Journal – For their activities and supports for Khmer literatures.
